How does K2-7-VEG™ compare to D3 + K2-7 and CalDveg®?
K2-7-VEG™ is standalone K2-7 — for adults who handle their D3 separately and only want K2. D3 + K2-7 combines K2 with 600 IU Vitamin D3 in one capsule — for adults who want D3+K2 maintenance together. CalDveg® adds calcium (500mg) and magnesium (94mg) alongside the D3+K2 — for adults specifically targeting bone health with the full mineral matrix. Choose K2-7-VEG™ if your D3 is covered elsewhere and you only need K2. Choose D3+K2-7 if you want both in one product. Choose CalDveg® if bone health is your specific target and you want the full Ca+Mg+D3+K2 matrix.
What's the difference between K2-7 and K1?
Both are forms of Vitamin K but with different primary functions. K1 (phylloquinone) comes from leafy greens and primarily supports blood coagulation. K2 (menaquinones — MK-4 through MK-13) comes from fermented foods and animal products and primarily supports bone and arterial health by activating osteocalcin (which binds calcium to bone) and matrix-Gla protein (which prevents calcium deposition in arteries). The body converts some K1 to K2 but at low efficiency. Vegans and vegetarians often get adequate K1 from greens but inadequate K2, since the main dietary K2 sources (natto, hard cheeses, egg yolks) are excluded from most plant-forward diets. K2 supplementation fills this gap directly.
Why MK-7 specifically — what about MK-4?
MK-7 has a half-life of approximately 3 days in serum — significantly longer than MK-4 (~1 hour). This means once-daily MK-7 dosing maintains steady serum levels across the week, whereas MK-4 requires multiple daily doses to achieve the same. MK-7 also activates vitamin K-dependent proteins (osteocalcin, matrix-Gla protein) more efficiently per microgram than MK-4. For the standard 55mcg daily dose, MK-7 is the more appropriate form. Clinical research on bone and arterial health endpoints has largely used MK-7 specifically.
Why is MenaquinGold® from fermented chickpeas?
Traditional K2-7 supplementation comes from fermented soy (natto) — but natto-derived K2 carries soy allergens, has variable concentration depending on fermentation, and the strong flavour of natto extract is hard to mask. MenaquinGold® is produced through fermentation of chickpeas — same fermentation principle, no soy involvement, more consistent K2 concentration, and the chickpea base is allergen-friendly for adults with soy sensitivities. The MK-7 molecule itself is identical regardless of fermentation substrate; the chickpea base is a cleaner production process.
Why does this contain MCT oil?
Vitamin K2-7 is fat-soluble — it absorbs significantly better when consumed with dietary fat. Most K2 products on the market are dry capsules that depend on the customer remembering to take them with a fatty meal. The 118mg of MCT in each capsule serves as a built-in fat carrier — supporting absorption even when meals are light on fat. MCT specifically is used because it's the fastest-absorbing dietary fat, with no waiting for full digestion. The 0.86 kcal per capsule is negligible.
I'm taking warfarin — can I take this?
Inform your physician before starting daily K2 supplementation. The 55mcg K2-7 dose is real and affects coagulation pathways — warfarin dosing may need review. Your INR may need monitoring during the first few weeks of supplementation. Once you start, stay consistent — sudden changes in K2 intake are more disruptive to INR stability than steady intake. K2-7 has a longer half-life and steadier effect on coagulation than K1 from leafy greens, which most cardiologists view as easier to manage than fluctuating dietary K1 intake. For adults on direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs — apixaban, rivaroxaban, dabigatran, edoxaban) instead of warfarin, K2 supplementation does not affect DOAC function and is generally safe to take.
How long before I see results?
Depends on what you're measuring. Serum K2 reaches steady state in 4–6 weeks of consistent daily use. Bone turnover markers (CTX, P1NP, undercarboxylated osteocalcin) shift over 3–6 months. Bone density changes (measured via DEXA scan) are slow — typically requiring 12–24 months of consistent intake to show measurable difference. Arterial calcification markers shift even more slowly, often requiring 18–24 months of consistent intake. Felt effects are not reliable indicators of K2 status — the blood markers and imaging studies are. K2 is a long-term wellness habit, not a short-term intervention.
Why 55mcg specifically? Is that enough?
55mcg is the Indian RDA for adults — calibrated for daily maintenance of normal K2 status. For most adults, this dose maintains adequate K2 status indefinitely. Adults specifically targeting active reduction of vascular calcification or post-menopausal bone density loss have sometimes used higher doses (typically 180–360mcg daily) under physician supervision in clinical trials. For daily maintenance and long-term health support, 55mcg is calibrated correctly; for active disease intervention, higher doses are typically prescribed by a physician.
Is this safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
Generally yes at the dose provided. K2 status in pregnant women is increasingly recognised as important for both maternal and foetal bone health. The 55mcg dose is appropriate baseline supplementation; confirm total daily intake with your gynaecologist — your prenatal vitamin may already contain K2.
Can I take this alongside my multivitamin or other supplements?
Generally yes, with one consideration. Multiple Unived products contain K2-7 — Essential Protein, Elite Performance Protein, D3+K2-7, Basics D3+K2-7, CalDveg®, and Multivitamins. If you stack two or three K2-containing products, you're likely doubling or tripling the 55mcg baseline — generally still within safe limits, but worth calculating. The right pattern is to pick the products that fit your stack and avoid stacking products that already deliver the same nutrients. If your multivitamin already contains 55mcg K2-7, adding this standalone product gives you 110mcg total — useful for adults specifically targeting arterial or bone health, redundant if you're just looking for maintenance.
