What is ALA actually for?

Alpha Lipoic Acid is unique because it works as an antioxidant in both water and fat environments — most antioxidants only work in one. It also activates AMPK (the cellular ""energy sensor"") to improve insulin sensitivity. Primary use cases: metabolic support, antioxidant defence, and neuropathy adjunct.

Will this help with diabetic neuropathy?

ALA has clinical evidence for diabetic peripheral neuropathy, but the doses used in those trials are 600–1200 mg/day — substantially higher than the 300 mg in this product. For diagnosed neuropathy under clinical management, consult your endocrinologist on appropriate dosing.

Should I take this with food?

GI tolerance is better with food, though absorption is modestly higher on an empty stomach. Post-lunch dosing is a sensible compromise. If you experience nausea on empty-stomach dosing, take with food.

Is it safe with diabetes medications?

ALA can modestly enhance insulin sensitivity, which means combined use with insulin or insulin-sensitisers may produce additive effects on blood glucose. Generally safe but worth coordinating with your endocrinologist if you are on tightly-controlled antidiabetic therapy.
