What does vitamin K2 actually do?
Vitamin K2 activates two key proteins: osteocalcin, which binds calcium into the bone matrix, and Matrix Gla Protein, which helps keep calcium out of arterial walls. In short, it helps direct calcium to where it belongs (bone) and away from where it doesn't (soft tissue). Vitamin K is also required for normal blood clotting. It works best alongside vitamin D3 and adequate calcium.
Why MK-7, and why fermented from chickpeas?
MK-7 (menaquinone-7) is the long-half-life form of K2 — one small daily dose keeps vitamin K activity steady all day, unlike shorter-acting MK-4 or K1. And while most commercial K2 is fermented from natto (soy), this MK-7 is MenaquinGold®, fermented from chickpeas — which makes it soy-free while staying fully plant-based and vegan.
Do I need K2 if I already take vitamin D3?
They're complementary rather than interchangeable. D3 increases how much calcium you absorb; K2 activates the proteins that direct that calcium into bone and away from arteries. A lot of people take D3 (or calcium) without K2 and get only half the system working. If your diet and gut bacteria already supply enough K2 you may not need it, but D3 + K2 together is a sensible pairing — especially if you take a higher-dose D3.
Will I feel anything when I take it?
No — and that's expected. K2 works at the tissue level over months; it isn't a supplement with a noticeable day-to-day effect. The benefit is structural and cumulative, which is why consistent daily use over the long term is what counts.
Can I take K2 if I'm on a blood thinner like warfarin?
Not without your doctor's supervision — this is the single most important caution for any vitamin K product. Vitamin K directly antagonises warfarin and similar vitamin-K-antagonist anticoagulants, which can make them unsafe or ineffective. If you are on one of these medicines, do not start K2 on your own; only use it if your physician approves and manages your dose and clotting tests.
Why is it formulated in MCT oil?
Vitamin K2 is fat-soluble, so it absorbs best with fat. Suspending the MK-7 in medium-chain triglyceride oil (from coconut) gives it a built-in lipid carrier that supports reliable absorption, even when taken with a light meal.
Is it vegan and soy-free?
Yes to both. The MK-7 is fermented from chickpeas (not soy-based natto), the MCT carrier is from coconut, and the capsule is plant-based HPMC. Note that because the MCT is coconut-derived, the product does contain coconut.
When should I take it?
One capsule daily, post-lunch, with a glass of water. Taking it with a meal helps this fat-soluble vitamin absorb. Consistency day to day matters more than the exact timing.
Does it contain any allergens?
It contains coconut, since the MCT carrier is coconut-derived. It is free from soy, dairy, added sugar, gluten, artificial colours, fillers and preservatives. If you have a coconut allergy, avoid this product.
Is 55mcg enough K2?
55mcg of MK-7 is 100% of the Indian RDA, which is the daily requirement this product is built to meet for general maintenance. Some bone and arterial research has used higher study doses (around 90–180mcg), but those are research protocols rather than the daily requirement — for a maintenance supplement designed to keep your K2 status topped up, 100% RDA is the appropriate target.
