Our body is under constant exposure to oxidative stress
caused by a lot of factors. Oxidative stress largely impacts the body at the
cellular level and they are linked to several health conditions and diseases
including diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and neurological diseases
[3] [9]. Therefore, our body needs to constantly replenish its antioxidant
stores and reboot its antioxidant defense mechanism through proper diet, active
lifestyle, and dietary supplements.

ALA serves as a unique biological antioxidant that
neutralizes free radicals generated by oxidative stress due to its unique
sulfur-containing structure [8]. The amount of ALA produced by the body
decreases with age along with a decline in the synthesis and recycling of other
key nutrients like glutathione, and coenzyme Q10, leaving the body vulnerable
to oxidative damage [7] [6].

Supplementing ALA may be necessary to maintain adequate
levels and regenerate other antioxidants and boost the body’s overall
antioxidant capacity against numerous complications and diseases that are
associated with impaired energy utilization and increased oxidative stress,
including type 2 diabetes, neurological diseases, and cardiovascular disease.

Our Formulation

Unived’s ALA capsules are formulated with Alpha-Lipoic Acid
and supportive minerals like Zinc, Calcium, and Magnesium.

Alpha Lipoic acid exerts multiple modes of action.

  • Antioxidant activity: Neutralizes and scavenges free
radicals like singlet oxygen, superoxides, peroxyl, and hydroxyl radicals,
hypochlorite, and peroxynitrite. It regenerates other antioxidants such as
glutathione, vitamin C, vitamin E, and coenzyme Q10 [11] [14]. ALA also can
chelate metals and eliminate them which can produce an antioxidant effect [10].
  • Glucose metabolism and Insulin Resistance: ALA decreases
insulin resistance and increases insulin sensitivity and effective glucose
    utilization [12] [13].
  • Liver Protection: ALA inhibits inflammatory mediators like
Nitric oxide and TNF-α in the injured liver, thus exhibiting its
anti-inflammatory action [15]. Alleviates NAFLD progression associated with
T2DM and triglyceride accumulation in the liver [16].
  • Energy production:  It
plays a pivotal role in cellular metabolism by acting as a coenzyme in energy
    production [17].

The addition of small amounts of magnesium results in
reinforcement of the protective effect, especially, it increases antioxidant
defense [2].
