And cholesterol will bite the dust
Cholesterol is a fat-like substance and is found naturally in all parts of the body. Our body makes its own cholesterol. For proper functioning, the body needs cholesterol. However if the LDL (bad cholesterol) level increases in the body, the body becomes susceptible to heart disease. There are no symptoms to ascertain high blood cholesterol, but a blood test can identify it immediately. High cholesterol is hereditary, and strikes the over-weight with a vehemence.
So, if you are suffering from high cholesterol, you are in perpetual danger of having your arteries blocked. This phenomenon is called Arteriosclerosis, where the arteries harden because of the deposition of fat and cholesterol on the walls, and the lumen becomes narrow, eventually leading to blockage. This affects the blood supply to the heart, and is a major cause for a heart attack.
Doctors prescribe cholesterol lowering drugs as the ultimate cure for cholesterol control. Cholesterol lowering drugs block the cholesterol producing liver enzymes and in turn work on reducing cholesterol all together. What is conveniently overlooked, is the harmful side effects attributed to cholesterol lowering drugs. Most notably, raised liver enzymes, muscle atrophy, muscle pain & Rhabdomyolysis, and muscle weakness & neuropathy. Cholesterol lowering drugs have also heavily been linked to the development of type two diabetes, and pre diabetes. Research says about 30% of people on cholesterol lowering drugs get diabetes. Cholesterol lowering drugs also lead to a sharp loss of memory.
One of the biggest losses due to cholesterol lowering drugs is that of the enzyme CoQ10. CoQ10 is found naturally in most cells, with especially high concentration in the heart, the organ that requires high levels of energy for normal operation. This enzyme starts naturally deteriorating after the age of 40. Cholesterol lowering drugs make CoQ10 reduce at a faster rate than normal.
Naturally, the most obvious cure is not the real answer to raised cholesterol levels. A balanced diet, regular exercise and control over consumption of excessive sugary and fatty foods, goes hand in hand with maintaining a healthy cholesterol count.
