The combination of vitamin D3 and K2 has gained attention
recently due to their complementary effects. There has been an increase in
promising research on the synergistic effect of combining these two vitamins in
everyday supplements [1].
Vitamins D3 and K2 are both fat-soluble vitamins and play a
central role in calcium metabolism. Vitamin D3 helps in the effective
absorption of calcium and Vitamin K2-7 directs the absorbed calcium to bones.
Without Vitamin D3, calcium will be excreted via the kidney and without Vitamin
K2-7, calcium won’t be deposited in the bones.
When there is vitamin D3 without enough vitamin K, the
calcium might not transfer to the bones properly and instead end up in the
vascular tissue or arteries. This is because vitamin K is required to activate
proteins that concentrate calcium in bones, such as matrix GLA and osteocalcin.
Vitamin D3 promotes the production of vitamin K-dependent proteins, which
require vitamin K for carboxylation in order to function properly [1]. Thus,
the co-supplementation of D3 with vitamin K2 may minimize this calcification
risk and better calcium utilization as they both complement each other.
Our Formulation
Unived Basics D3+K2-7 is formulated with Vitamin D3 sourced
from lichen, a plant-based source of Vitamin D3, and Vitamin K2-7 as
Menaquinone-7 from fermented chickpeas.
Mode of Action:
Genetic, molecular, cellular, and human evidence support
that optimal concentrations of both vitamin D and vitamin K are beneficial for
bone and cardiovascular health. Vitamin K is needed for the carboxylation of
vitamin K-dependent proteins such as osteocalcin and matrix Gla protein, while
vitamin D promotes the production of vitamin K-dependent protein
concentrations. These vitamin K-dependent proteins are needed for the bone and
the vascular system. This will result in bone mineralization and will inhibit
soft tissue calcification, which will ultimately lead to lower risks of
fractures and coronary heart disease [1].
Vitamin D3 also modulates innate and adaptive immune
responses thereby promoting immune health.

What is the suggested use of Unived Basics D3+ K2-7?
Adults take 1 capsule per day, post breakfast.
Is Unived D3+K2-7 safe?
Both vitamins have a strong safety profile even at high dosages. If you’re taking any medications, check with your doctor about your vitamin K intake, however. The K2-7 (MenaquinGold®) in the formulation is safe to have both long and short term and it’s been extensively studied.
Can too much Vitamin K2 cause blood clots?
Abnormal clotting is not related to excessive vitamin K intake, and there is no known toxicity associated with vitamin K1 or vitamin K2. Some oral anticoagulants, such as warfarin inhibit coagulation by antagonizing the action of vitamin K.
Does Vitamin D3 + K2-7 interact with any other drugs?
If you are currently on antibiotics, blood thinners like warfarin, coumadin, or anticonvulsants consult your healthcare practitioner before taking the supplement as these drugs may interact with Vitamin K2-7 in the formulation.
